Archive for Engagement Portraits

Love has no boundaries…. as depicted by Arthur & Tyler’s love for each other. This same sex couple will be sharing their wedding vows next Summer at Willow Ridge Manor and we’re so excited to be photographing it, along with my husband providing their musical entertainment via his DJ business. I got to spend an beautiful Summer evening with them strolling around downtown to do these urban engagement photos for them. Since their venue has a completely different feel to it we decided to focus more on the city that they live in. I love Denver! It keeps changing and there’s always new places for me to take photographs at…. I remember when I first moved here (over 20 years ago). The area around Union Station used to be pretty much a quiet spot without a lot of activity. You could get get a landscape photo of Denver’s skyline from the same place I took the last two photos in this post now there’s nothing but high rises there and it’s always full of people. Progress… it changes things. In this case for the better as I’m so happy that people in love can get married now no matter who they are! Looking forward to celebrating your big day with you both! ~Jamie

I’ve been working on so many weddings the last couple months that I’m a little behind with posting other photography sessions. Since this couple from the engagement/family portrait session I photographed at the end of July are getting married this weekend at Willow Ridge Manor; I thought I better post it! I had such a blast creating these images for this family, so much so that I’m really looking forward to covering their wedding!  A lot of couples today enter into marriage already having children, so it just makes sense to include them in some of the engagement photos! Adalynn is such a cutie! Who wouldn’t want her in the photos! Lots of love to you both and we’ll see you this weekend!

So a bunch of couples got engaged over the holidays and possibly Valentine’s Day! And they are wondering what they should start with first in the planning process! Well, before you get knee deep in the planning process a fun thing to do is to announce your engagement to the world! And one of the best ways to do this is by having some amazing photos taken of you both during an Engagement Portrait Session! Whether you and your significant other have been together a year or longer, a lot of times there are not a ton of photos of you together as a couple. This is a great way to add some photos to your albums, meet and try out a photographer that you might possibly use for your wedding and to have some fun casual photos of you and your fiance’ for things like your wedding website, save-the-date cards and more!

Here are some great poses and ideas to make your session fabulous!

1.) Beautiful View – Choose a Location for an Outstanding Natural View! (Especially if you can’t hold your wedding at a location with a spectacular view!)

2.) Incorporate Your Pets – Let’s face it your dogs are your family! Bring them along to the photo-shoot for some fun photos. This is a great way to include your furry family members, especially if you can’t bring them to your wedding venue.

3.) Highlight the Engagement Ring – Did your fiance’ do an excellent job picking out your ring? Make sure the ring is the focus for a few shots!

4.) Choose a Fun Activity for Photos – Maybe you are avid rock climbers, role-players, bikers, etc. Use the hobbies that you like to do together to create a fun photo-shoot that shows off what you love to do together!

5.) The Hand-Hold Pose – is a must for every engagement session! It shows how connected you are to the one you love.

6.) Lovely Portrait – Don’t forget to do some traditional poses looking at the camera too! Grandma wants to see your faces!

7.) Nightime Photos – Be unique and schedule your session close to sundown so you can also incorporate some night-time poses, especially if you got engaged around the holidays and Christmas lights are still hanging up around town.

8.) Wall Art Backdrop – Want an urban/edgy look… find some Graffiti Wall Art to pose in front of!

9.) Epic Kiss Photo – Don’t forget the romantic Hollywood kiss photo!

10.) Sun Glow Photos – Use the sun as an interesting/creative element in your photos!

Lucky, is an understatement for this beautiful couple! Sonya and Max were the winners of our Free Engagement Session giveaway at The Quality Hill Bridal Show last month! They wasted no time in setting up a fun photo-shoot with me in downtown Denver. Sonya showed me some photos of couples enjoying each other’s company in an urban scene and the rest was history! I met them at Union Station on a chilly Saturday morning and we explored the area. I had a great time photographing them…. there was a lot of chemistry between them and they were super easy to photograph! They will be saying their “I Do’s” this Spring! Congrats you two!

Who says snow can put a damper on your engagement session?! Not this couple… we bundled up and headed out to Boulder to give a little campus life feel to these photos. Bethany is a grad student at CU and my suggestion to do their engagement photos there so they have a little more urban flair to them was a big hit. We will be covering their Willow Ridge Manor wedding in August so it was great getting to know them a little more in person and to see the love they share between each other. As a couple they definitely had charisma and it was a pure joy photographing them! Enjoy these amazing snowy day engagement photos!

We traveled to Golden Gate Canyon Park at the peak of the Fall colors for Tiffany and Carl’s engagement session. I spent close to three hours photographing this amazing couple in multiple spots through out the park and in three different outfits! Most couples come with one outfit, but I loved how much thought and effort they put into their Engagement shoot! Their pooch even got into some of the photos which is a great way to incorporate a pet into your wedding especially if they won’t be allowed at the actual wedding venue. Beautiful scenery, loving couple equals awesome photos! Check them out!

I’m really looking forward to Erin & Jerod’s wedding next Summer at Willow Ridge Manor!  We took a nice stroll around Washington Park in Denver near where the couple lives one warm evening to do their engagement photos. There was an amazing Red sunset due to all of the forest fire smoke in the air. I always thought these unique “fire” sunsets would look pretty dramatic in a photo-shoot and now I have the photos to prove it. Summer is an excellent time to do your engagement photos because there are so many options for places to go. Maybe you are a couple looking to save money by having a Winter wedding, but still would like to have some great photos taken of you in skirts and shorts in a beautiful garden then Summer is a great time of year for these.  A gorgeous couple with love on their minds! Enjoy!

I completely dropped the ball on posting photos from this fun couple’s engagement session at the Evergreen Lakehouse back in January! Oops! I had even picked out the photos for it and in my mind I had already done it…. I’ve been crazy busy this Winter though which has been abnormal for me, but also really great because it made the Winter pass by really quick! I can’t believe we’ve already changed to daylight savings time!

Anyways… Michelle & Bryan were awesome! We started talking about ideas on where to do their engagement photos and Michelle said she really wanted pine trees and mountains in the photos and I suggested doing them in Evergreen because it’s close to the city and there’s a lot of great locations to do them. When I mentioned a Winter session at the Evergreen Lakehouse she mentioned it could be busy because of the ice skating rink that they maintain on the lake, which I never knew about. But then I said we can even have you ice skate in some of them! Then she said that’s a great idea because I’m a figure skater and Bryan plays hockey and going to Avalanche games is one of our favorite hobbies! A great idea that involved some of the favorite hobbies of the couple was born! Due to how warm the weather has been this year we almost didn’t get to do the ice skating portion of the photos, but I’m so glad we did! These are completely adorable!!

I can’t wait to shoot your wedding at Willow Ridge Manor this Summer! Thanks for making me a part of your big day! ~Jamie
