Archive for Engagement Portraits

This time last year I was tromping around in the snow taking engagement photos of Alison and Alex in anticipation for their wedding that is to take place next week! Wow! Where did a year go? On this Valentine’s Day I was thinking about them and all the other couples that might be getting engaged today! This is the next biggest holiday for engagements after Christmas! I’m so excited to finally share these awesome photos with you on a day that celebrates love! I can’t wait to cover their wedding next weekend! Enjoy!

A year ago Becka and Bryce booked us to cover their wedding that will already be next weekend and then we photographed their fall engagement portraits to memorialize the special occasion! How quickly a year flies by! It hardly seems like a year has passed, but the fact that I’m just now getting to blog about it shows you how busy we’ve been! With the leaves just beginning to turn here in Denver I was thinking about all of the fall weddings and portrait sessions coming up for us in the next couple of weeks. Fall is a magical time of year and just so happens to be the busiest season for photographers everywhere. Families are wanting to document their family for holiday cards, couples are wanting those beautiful colors in their save-the-date cards and who doesn’t like wearing boots and chunky sweaters.

I just wanted to share some of my favorite photos from this session with their puppy in anticipation for their wedding next week. It will be great to see them again! Enjoy these fun festive fall photos!

When two people are really in love it’s hard to not to enjoy photographing them because the chemistry just smolders in camera! Taylor and Sam both said they felt like they weren’t super photogenic. I said hogwash! We got some beautiful rustic mountain photos at one of my favorite locations to do photos at and the rest they say is history! After spending the morning with them I’m really looking forward to their fall wedding this year! it’s going to be a blast!

Hailey & Andrew are another one of our Willow Ridge Manor couples who will be tying the knot this Fall. To announce their engagement we did their rustic engagement portrait session in Golden, Colorado. Hailey was hoping for some snow, so I was happy that the foothills had a slight dusting of snow behind them! It ended up being a wonderfully warm day to celebrate their love and we got some awesome shots!  Looking forward to their September wedding!

Here’s a couple after my own heart! They both share a passion for riding motorcycles and wanted to incorporate that into their engagement photos! Yes, please sign me up to photograph this! Probably a lot of people don’t know, but my husband and I also found this pastime as an excellent way to connect, once upon a time! While I never got up to owning my own separate motorcycle I relished the days that I could climb on the back of our own bike and head for the mountains with nothing more than the road and the wind and a few stops in between for great BBQ and beers! Unfortunately, with our businesses needing more and more of our time and then adding on children we found that our motorcycle was just collecting dust in the garage and decided to sell it. But I fully intend on someday (when the kids are more independent) purchasing a bike again and getting out there.

Alyssa and Zakery have an amazing hobby that they both enjoy doing together and Colorado offers such amazing scenery it’s just awesome to show their passion for it in photos! Not to mention I got to be a little more creative with my ring shots! Beautiful couple with awesome bikes equals a fun, fantastic Fall portrait session. Looking forward to your 2020 Fall wedding as well!

Here’s another awesome Fall engagement session for a couple that we will be photographing their wedding next year! We went with a little rustic elegance at one of the best parks for engagement photos in Golden, Colorado. Katie & Ben have romance down! These two had a great time expressing their love and I’m so looking forward to their Spring wedding!

‘Tis the season for engagements! If you got engaged over the holidays and are looking at where to start with the wedding planning process one of the funnest things to do is a photography session! It commemorates the moment and gives you some amazing photos to share with the world your love of each other. It’s also a great way to try out a photographer that you are considering for your wedding coverage. Give us a call, we still have some p[rime dates in 2020 available.

I had a really busy Fall with a ton of bookings already for 2020 wedding couples which kept me busy doing engagement portraits while the weather was nice. I love doing engagement photos! It’s a great way to get to know the couple and how they photograph and it also allows me to find new and different spots to take photos! This location was one I had covered a previous small/elopement wedding at close to Denver and has an amazing mountain view! Rachel & Kyle will be tying the knot this Spring at one of our favorite venues, Willow Ridge Manor! Since they will have more of a red rock look to their wedding photos we were going for something with more pine trees and a view of the mountain range and this location just fit the bill! It’s the perfect way to share their new home off to all of their Chicago friends and family.

Very much looking forward to working with this laid back outdoorsy couple for their big day next year! Enjoy their romantic engagement photos below!

Love has no boundaries…. as depicted by Arthur & Tyler’s love for each other. This same sex couple will be sharing their wedding vows next Summer at Willow Ridge Manor and we’re so excited to be photographing it, along with my husband providing their musical entertainment via his DJ business. I got to spend an beautiful Summer evening with them strolling around downtown to do these urban engagement photos for them. Since their venue has a completely different feel to it we decided to focus more on the city that they live in. I love Denver! It keeps changing and there’s always new places for me to take photographs at…. I remember when I first moved here (over 20 years ago). The area around Union Station used to be pretty much a quiet spot without a lot of activity. You could get get a landscape photo of Denver’s skyline from the same place I took the last two photos in this post now there’s nothing but high rises there and it’s always full of people. Progress… it changes things. In this case for the better as I’m so happy that people in love can get married now no matter who they are! Looking forward to celebrating your big day with you both! ~Jamie

I’ve been working on so many weddings the last couple months that I’m a little behind with posting other photography sessions. Since this couple from the engagement/family portrait session I photographed at the end of July are getting married this weekend at Willow Ridge Manor; I thought I better post it! I had such a blast creating these images for this family, so much so that I’m really looking forward to covering their wedding!  A lot of couples today enter into marriage already having children, so it just makes sense to include them in some of the engagement photos! Adalynn is such a cutie! Who wouldn’t want her in the photos! Lots of love to you both and we’ll see you this weekend!

So a bunch of couples got engaged over the holidays and possibly Valentine’s Day! And they are wondering what they should start with first in the planning process! Well, before you get knee deep in the planning process a fun thing to do is to announce your engagement to the world! And one of the best ways to do this is by having some amazing photos taken of you both during an Engagement Portrait Session! Whether you and your significant other have been together a year or longer, a lot of times there are not a ton of photos of you together as a couple. This is a great way to add some photos to your albums, meet and try out a photographer that you might possibly use for your wedding and to have some fun casual photos of you and your fiance’ for things like your wedding website, save-the-date cards and more!

Here are some great poses and ideas to make your session fabulous!

1.) Beautiful View – Choose a Location for an Outstanding Natural View! (Especially if you can’t hold your wedding at a location with a spectacular view!)

2.) Incorporate Your Pets – Let’s face it your dogs are your family! Bring them along to the photo-shoot for some fun photos. This is a great way to include your furry family members, especially if you can’t bring them to your wedding venue.

3.) Highlight the Engagement Ring – Did your fiance’ do an excellent job picking out your ring? Make sure the ring is the focus for a few shots!

4.) Choose a Fun Activity for Photos – Maybe you are avid rock climbers, role-players, bikers, etc. Use the hobbies that you like to do together to create a fun photo-shoot that shows off what you love to do together!

5.) The Hand-Hold Pose – is a must for every engagement session! It shows how connected you are to the one you love.

6.) Lovely Portrait – Don’t forget to do some traditional poses looking at the camera too! Grandma wants to see your faces!

7.) Nightime Photos – Be unique and schedule your session close to sundown so you can also incorporate some night-time poses, especially if you got engaged around the holidays and Christmas lights are still hanging up around town.

8.) Wall Art Backdrop – Want an urban/edgy look… find some Graffiti Wall Art to pose in front of!

9.) Epic Kiss Photo – Don’t forget the romantic Hollywood kiss photo!

10.) Sun Glow Photos – Use the sun as an interesting/creative element in your photos!
